Dr. Judy Garber, director of the Center for Cancer Genetics and Prevention at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, will join President Barack Obama's 18-member National Cancer Advisory Board.?
President Barack Obama has appointed Dr. Judy Garber, director of the Center for Cancer Genetics and Prevention at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and Dr. David Christiani, a professor at the Harvard School of Public Health, to join the 18-member National Cancer Advisory Board. The two will each serve a six-year term.
They join fellow local appointee Dr. William Sellers, who is the global head of oncology for the Novartis Institute for Biomedical Research in Cambridge. Another local appointee, Dr. Bruce Chabner, the director of clinical research at Massachusetts General Hospital, is stepping down after the conclusion of his six-year term.
Among other duties, the board has the responsibility to review applications for research grants and to ?recommend approval of applications for projects which show promise of making valuable contributions to human knowledge? in the cancer space, according to the board?s charter.
Meetings are held at least four times a year.
